# XML sitemap generator

Canonical URL: https://luckpanda.app/chatbot/tools/sitemap-generator
Language: en
Updated October 14, 2026

Enter your website address. The crawler follows the links on your site, leaves out pages that should not be listed, and writes a sitemap.xml you can download and publish at the root of your site.

Free tool: https://luckpanda.app/chatbot/tools/sitemap-generator (analyzer, website)

Agents: run it over MCP (https://luckpanda.app/mcp) with chatbot_public_tool_run { "tool": "sitemap-generator", "lang": "en", "inputs": { … } }; chatbot_public_tool_list gives the inputs.

## What a sitemap generator does

> An XML sitemap is a file, usually yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, that lists the pages you want search engines to find. This generator starts at your address and follows links on the same site, up to 50 pages and three links deep. It obeys your robots.txt, leaves out noindex pages and files that are not web pages, and adds a lastmod date when your server sends one.

1. **Enter your address.** Your home page is the best start, because it links to most of your site.
2. **Let it crawl.** It reads your robots.txt, then your pages, as LuckPandaBot. The checks show what it found and what it left out.
3. **Download sitemap.xml.** Look through the list. If a page you care about is missing, link to it from another page and run it again.
4. **Publish and submit it.** Upload it to the root of your site, add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt, and submit it in Google Search Console.

**What the file looks like**

```text
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
  <url>
    <loc>https://www.yourbusiness.com/</loc>
    <lastmod>2026-09-30</lastmod>
  </url>
  <url>
    <loc>https://www.yourbusiness.com/pricing</loc>
  </url>
</urlset>
```

A page without lastmod is one whose server sent no Last-Modified date.

## The rules a sitemap must follow

| Rule | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| 50,000 URLs or 50 MB per file | Uncompressed. A bigger site splits its pages over several sitemaps and lists them in a sitemap index. |
| Full addresses | Each <loc> is a complete URL with https:// and the host, not a path like /pricing. |
| One host | Every URL uses the same protocol and host as the sitemap file. |
| UTF-8, with & written as &amp; | Special characters in addresses are escaped. |
| lastmod only when true | Google uses lastmod only when it is consistently accurate. A date that changes on every visit is ignored. |
| No need for priority or changefreq | Google ignores both, so this generator leaves them out. |

**The line to add to robots.txt**

```text
Sitemap: https://www.yourbusiness.com/sitemap.xml
```

## Common mistakes

- Listing pages that are noindex, redirect or return an error. List only pages you want in search results.
- Mixing www and non-www, or http and https, in one sitemap.
- Publishing the file in a folder. A sitemap covers its own folder and below, so put it at the root.
- Expecting a sitemap to get every page indexed. Google calls it a hint, not a guarantee.
- Making a sitemap once and forgetting it. Run it again after you add or remove pages, or use one your CMS keeps up to date.

## The same crawl can teach a support agent your website

This generator uses the same rules LuckPanda uses to read a website for an AI agent: same site only, breadth-first, robots.txt for LuckPandaBot respected, noindex pages left out. Point a LuckPanda support agent at your site and it reads up to 50 pages, then answers your visitors’ questions from them at any hour.

**Turn the pages you just listed into answers** Build a support agent from your website and test it free before it goes live. [See the AI customer service agent](https://luckpanda.app/chatbot/ai-customer-service-agent)

## Questions people ask

### How do I create a sitemap for my website?

Enter your address above and download the sitemap.xml it writes. Many website builders and CMS platforms also make one for you; check yoursite.com/sitemap.xml first.

### Where do I put my sitemap.xml?

At the root of your site, so it is at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Then add a line “Sitemap:” with its full address to robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console.

### Does a small website need a sitemap?

Not always. Google says a site of about 500 pages or fewer, with every important page linked from another, might not need one. It still helps a new site with few links from elsewhere.

### Why are some of my pages missing from the sitemap?

The generator leaves out pages blocked by robots.txt, pages marked noindex, errors and files that are not web pages, and stops at 50 pages and three links deep. Pages no other page links to cannot be found by any crawler.
