# WhatsApp link generator

Canonical URL: https://luckpanda.app/chatbot/tools/whatsapp-link-generator
Language: en
Updated October 14, 2026

Type your WhatsApp number and, if you like, the first message customers should send. You get a wa.me link that opens a chat with you, a QR code and a button for your website. It updates as you type.

Free tool: https://luckpanda.app/chatbot/tools/whatsapp-link-generator (widget, sales-and-leads)

Agents: run it over MCP (https://luckpanda.app/mcp) with chatbot_public_tool_run { "tool": "whatsapp-link-generator", "lang": "en", "inputs": { … } }; chatbot_public_tool_list gives the inputs.

## How a WhatsApp link works

> A WhatsApp link, or click-to-chat link, opens a chat with your number without the customer saving it first. Its form is https://wa.me/ followed by your full number in international format: country code and number, digits only, without the plus sign, leading zeros, brackets or dashes. Add ?text= and a URL-encoded message to fill in the customer’s first message.

1. **Choose the country.** The form starts on your country. Change it if your WhatsApp number is from somewhere else.
2. **Type the number.** Type it the way you write it locally, spaces and all. The tool adds the country code and drops a leading 0.
3. **Add a first message.** Optional. Write what a customer would say, so you know where the chat came from.
4. **Test, then share.** Open the link on your phone and on a computer, then copy it, download the QR code or paste the button into your website.

**The link this form makes from its example**

```text
https://wa.me/14155550134?text=Hi%2C%20I%20found%20you%20on%20your%20website%20and%20would%20like%20a%20quote%20for%20a%20deep%20clean.
```

## Writing your number in a WhatsApp link

Most broken links come from the number. The link needs the country code, then the number without the 0 you dial at home.

| Country | Written locally | In the link |
| --- | --- | --- |
| United States | (415) 555-0134 | wa.me/14155550134 |
| United Kingdom | 020 7946 0958 | wa.me/442079460958 |
| India | 098765 43210 | wa.me/919876543210 |
| Germany | 030 1234567 | wa.me/49301234567 |
| Italy (landline) | 06 1234 5678 | wa.me/390612345678 |

Example numbers only. Italian landlines keep their 0 after the country code; the tool handles that.

## Pre-filled message examples

A first message tells you which page, product or ad the chat came from. Copy one, replace the [square-bracket] slots, and paste it into the form.

**Quote request**

```text
Hi, I would like a quote for [service] at [postcode or area].
```

**Product question**

```text
Hi, I saw the [product name] on your website. Is it in stock?
```

**Booking**

```text
Hi, I would like to book a table for [number] people on [date].
```

**Order help**

```text
Hi, I have a question about order [order number].
```

## Common mistakes

- Keeping the leading 0: wa.me/4402079460958 will not find the number.
- Leaving out the country code, so WhatsApp looks for the number in the wrong country.
- Pasting a message with spaces and symbols straight after ?text=. It must be URL-encoded; the tool does it for you.
- Linking a number that is not on WhatsApp, such as a landline that was never registered.
- A long first message. One sentence is enough, and the customer can still edit it.

## On your website, an AI agent can answer before the chat moves to WhatsApp

A WhatsApp link starts a conversation that waits for you to reply. On your own website, a LuckPanda sales agent answers visitors at once, from your pages, at any hour. When someone wants to buy, it asks for an email or phone number and saves the lead, so your team follows up with the details in hand.

*A website chat on a cleaning company’s site*

Visitor: Do you do end-of-tenancy cleans?

Chatbot: Yes. End-of-tenancy cleans include the kitchen, bathrooms, inside windows and the oven, as our services page says. Would you like a quote? I can take your email and postcode.

Visitor: Sure, sam@example.com, SW4.

Chatbot: Thanks, Sam. I have passed this to our team, and they will email your quote. _(Lead saved: email and postcode)_

## Questions people ask

### How do I create a WhatsApp link?

Use https://wa.me/ followed by your number in international format: the country code and the number, digits only, with no plus sign, leading zero, brackets or dashes. The generator above builds it from the number as you write it locally.

### How do I add a message to a WhatsApp link?

Add ?text= after the number, then the message URL-encoded, so spaces become %20. The customer sees the message in the box and can edit it before sending.

### Why does my WhatsApp link say the number is not on WhatsApp?

Usually the country code is missing, a leading 0 was kept, or the number is not registered on WhatsApp. Check the number in the link, then open it on your own phone.

### Does a wa.me link expire?

No. It is a plain web address with your number in it, so it works as long as that number stays on WhatsApp. There is no account and nothing to renew.
