How to use the graphic design invoice
- Add the client and the project name.
- Bill each deliverable or phase on its own line.
- Add extra revision rounds and rush fees separately.
- Say when files and rights pass to the client, then save.
Typical lines on a design invoice
- Discovery and brief
- Initial concepts, with the number of directions
- Development, with the revision rounds included
- Final artwork in the agreed formats
- Extra revision rounds at the hourly rate
- Stock images or fonts licensed for the client, at cost
- Rush fee for a shortened deadline
Deposits and milestones
A 50% deposit before work starts is standard with new clients, with the balance on delivery of final files. On longer projects, bill at milestones such as concept approval and final artwork, so you are never more than one phase unpaid.
