Chat with a PDF: ask questions, get answers with page numbers
Drop in a manual, a contract, a paper or a price list and ask it anything. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded, and every answer points to the page it came from.
What does the warranty cover?
The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for 24 months from the date of purchase [p. 14]. It does not cover damage from drops, water or repairs by anyone other than an authorized service center [p. 14]. To make a claim, you need your proof of purchase and the serial number printed under the base [p. 15].
Answers come only from your document and cite the page. Open a citation to check the passage.
Build a support agent from your site
Your own AI agent answers questions like this on your website, day and night, from your own pages and documents, and passes the hard ones to you. Paste your address to see it learn your site. No account needed.
How to chat with a PDF
To chat with a PDF, drop the file into the box above and type a question in plain words. The page reads the file in your browser, finds the passages that match your question and sends only those to the AI. You get a short answer with page markers such as [p. 4]. Click a marker to see the passage it came from. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
- Add your documentDrop a PDF of up to 5 MB, or choose Paste text for an email, a web page or a file in another format.
- Check the pages readThe page tells you how many pages it read. If it finds no text, the PDF is probably a scan.
- Ask one question at a timeUse the words the document uses. "What is the notice period?" finds the right page faster than "Can I leave early?".
- Open the page markersClick [p. 7] to read the passage behind the answer. Check it before you rely on the answer.
What happens to your file
The file stays on your device. Only a few passages travel, and only when you ask.
| Step | Where it happens | What leaves your device |
|---|---|---|
| Reading the PDF | In your browser | Nothing |
| Cutting the text into passages, each with its page | In your browser | Nothing |
| Finding the passages that match your question | In your browser | Nothing |
| Writing the answer | LuckPanda and the AI model | Your question and the few matching passages, a few thousand characters at most |
| Afterwards | Nowhere | Nothing is kept: no file, no question, no answer |
LuckPanda counts how often the free tools are used, to apply fair-use limits. That count holds no text.
This matters when the document is a contract, an internal policy or a supplier price list. You can ask about one clause without handing the whole file to a third party. The matching passages do reach the AI model, though, so do not ask about text you are not allowed to share with any outside service.
What people use it for
Any long document where you need two or three lines and do not know which page they are on.
| Document | Questions that work well | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Product manuals | How do I reset it? What does the red light mean? How often should I clean the filter? | The exact steps, with the page to check the diagram |
| Contracts and agreements | What is the notice period? Who pays for repairs? When does it renew? | The clause in plain words, with its page |
| Research papers | What was the sample size? What are the stated limitations? Which method did they use? | The answer from the paper itself, not from the internet |
| Policies and handbooks | How many days of leave carry over? Who approves expenses? What is the return window? | The rule and where it is written |
| Price lists and catalogs | What is the minimum order? Which sizes come in black? What is the lead time? | The line from the list, with its page |
A coffee machine manual, 40 pages
An office lease, 18 pages
A packaging supplier’s catalog, 12 pages
The last answer is the tool working as intended. It answers only from the passages it was given. When they do not cover your question, it says so and suggests a better one instead of guessing.
How to ask questions that get good answers
The page picks the passages that share the most words with your question. Write the question with that in mind.
- Use the document’s own words. If the contract says "termination", ask about termination, not "quitting".
- Ask one thing at a time. Two questions pull passages from two places and each answer gets less room.
- Name the product, model or section when the document covers several, for example "the 2-seat sofa" or "Schedule B".
- When the answer says the document does not cover it, try again with a word you saw on the page.
- Ask for numbers directly: "What is the deadline?" works better than "Tell me about deadlines".
| Instead of | Ask |
|---|---|
| Is this any good? | What are the limitations the authors list? |
| Can I get my money back? | What does the refund section say about cancellations after 14 days? |
| Tell me everything about the warranty | How long is the warranty, and what does it exclude? |
| Summarize this document | What are the main obligations of the supplier? |
Limits to know
| Limit | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Scanned PDFs | A scan is a picture of each page, with no text inside. | Run it through text recognition (OCR) in your scanner app or PDF reader first, or paste the text. |
| Password-protected PDFs | The text is locked. | Remove the protection, then try again. |
| Files over 5 MB | Larger files are not read. | Split the PDF, or paste the part you need. |
| Summaries of a whole long document | Each answer uses only the few passages that match your question. | Ask about one part at a time. |
| Tables and charts | Tables come through as text, so the layout can be lost. | Check the passage behind the page marker. |
| Anything the document does not say | It never adds outside knowledge, by design. | Rephrase with a word from the document, or check another source. |
Answers are short, 150 words at most, and written in English on this page. The free tools have a fair-use limit per hour and per day.
Reading contracts, policies and leaflets
Use it to find a clause and understand what it says. It does not tell you whether a clause is fair, legal where you live or a good deal. It is not legal, medical or financial advice. For a decision that matters, read the passage yourself and ask a qualified professional.
- Good use: "Where does the contract say who pays for shipping on returns?"
- Good use: "What does the leaflet say about taking this with food?"
- Not what it is for: "Should I sign this?" or "Is this clause enforceable?"
Turn your manuals, policies and price lists into a support agent on your website
Your customers ask the same questions this tool answers. The answers are already in PDFs they never open.
A LuckPanda support agent works the same way, on your website and around the clock. It reads your website pages and the documents you add (PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown or CSV, up to 5 MB each). It answers visitors only from them, says so when they have nothing, and hands the chat to a person when it cannot help.

Is it free to chat with a PDF here?
Yes. There is no account and no sign-up. The free tools have a fair-use limit on the number of questions per hour and per day.
Is my PDF uploaded or stored?
No. The file is read in your browser. Only your question and the few passages that match it are sent to the AI to write the answer, and nothing is kept afterwards: not the file, the question or the answer.
Why does it say there is no readable text?
The PDF is probably a scan, which is a picture of each page with no text inside, or it is password-protected. Run the scan through text recognition (OCR) or remove the password, then try again. You can also copy the text and use Paste text.
Can it summarize a whole PDF?
Only in part. Each answer uses the few passages that best match your question, so a summary of a long document misses most of it. Ask about one part at a time, such as "What are the supplier’s obligations?" or "What were the results?".
Can I use it to understand a contract or a medical leaflet?
Yes, to find a passage and understand what it says. It is not legal or medical advice, and it does not judge whether a clause is fair or applies to you. For a decision, read the cited page and ask a professional.
Can I ask about a PDF in another language?
Yes. Ask in the language of the document, because the page matches your question to passages by their words. The answer is written in English on this page.

Build it with your AI agent
Give an agent your site and it can create the chatbot, read your pages and test it through LuckPanda's API and MCP. It prepares the work; going live stays with you.
Use LuckPanda's MCP server (https://luckpanda.app/mcp) to build a website chatbot for me. Ask for my website address, call chatbot_create_from_website with it, wait until the pages are learned (chatbot_source_list), then run a few test questions with chatbot_test_message and show me the answers. Do not put it live: I will do that myself.
