What makes a good product description

A product description tells a shopper what the product is, who it is for and why it is worth buying, using facts they can check: materials, size, how it is used and what is included. Lead with the main benefit, back each claim with a fact, and answer the questions shoppers would otherwise ask before buying. Leave out superlatives you cannot prove, such as "the best".

  1. Name the productWhat it is, with the size or model if it matters: "Stoneware coffee mug, 12 oz".
  2. Paste the factsMaterials, sizes, care, what is in the box, where it is made. Only these facts are used. Missing ones become [square-bracket] slots, never guesses.
  3. Choose where it is soldYour own store, a marketplace (plain and factual) or social (shorter and conversational). Add keywords shoppers search for, if you have them.
  4. Copy the four partsA short description, a long one, five bullets and a shopper FAQ. Check every fact against the product before you publish.

Product description examples

Invented products, to show the pattern. Replace the details with your own.

Short description: a canvas tote
A heavy cotton canvas tote with an inside zip pocket, big enough for a laptop and the day's shopping.
Long description: a desk lamp
Light your desk without lighting the whole room. The [product name] has an arm that bends where you need it and three brightness levels, from soft evening light to bright light for reading small print.

The base is weighted steel, so it stays put, and the lamp plugs into any USB-C charger. [Add what is in the box.]

Made for home offices and small desks where space matters.

Common mistakes

  • Copying the manufacturer's text. Many other shops have the same words.
  • Features with no benefit. "Weighted base" means more when you add "so it stays put".
  • Claims you cannot back up, such as "best seller" or "number one".
  • Stuffing keywords. Use each one where it reads naturally.

Each marketplace publishes its own rules for titles, bullets and descriptions. With Marketplace chosen, the generator writes plain, factual copy and leaves out claims such as "best seller" or "free shipping" unless you give them. Check your marketplace's current seller rules before you publish.

Your product page answers some questions. A sales agent answers the rest.

Add the shopper FAQ to your product page, or as FAQ entries in a LuckPanda agent's sources. A LuckPanda sales agent answers from your pages, documents and FAQs, recommends from the products you list with a link, and saves a lead when a shopper leaves an email or phone number and shows buying intent. It never invents a price or a link.

A shopper on a product page

Can this mug go in the microwave?
Yes. The product page says it is dishwasher and microwave safe. Is it for you, or a gift?
A gift. Will it look like the photo?
Close, but each glaze varies slightly because every mug is handmade, so yours will be one of a kind. Here is the mug if you want to order it.

Questions people ask

What is a product description?

It is the text on a product page that explains what the product is, who it is for and why it is worth buying, with the facts a shopper needs: materials, size, use and what is included.

How long should a product description be?

A short description is one or two sentences. A long one is usually a few short paragraphs; this generator writes 100 to 180 words. Simple products need less, technical ones more.

How do I write a product description that sells?

Lead with the main benefit for the shopper, back each claim with a fact, answer the common questions, and use the words your shoppers use. Leave out claims you cannot prove.

Can I use AI to write product descriptions?

Yes, as a draft. This generator uses only the facts you give and leaves slots where facts are missing. Check every detail against the product before you publish.

Should I put keywords in a product description?

Use the words shoppers search for where they read naturally. The generator uses each keyword you give at most twice.

For AI agents

Build it with your AI agent

Give an agent your site and it can create the chatbot, read your pages and test it through LuckPanda's API and MCP. It prepares the work; going live stays with you.

Use LuckPanda's MCP server (https://luckpanda.app/mcp) to build a website chatbot for me. Ask for my website address, call chatbot_create_from_website with it, wait until the pages are learned (chatbot_source_list), then run a few test questions with chatbot_test_message and show me the answers. Do not put it live: I will do that myself.

Instructions for AI agents

Needs a LuckPanda agent key (Settings › Developers) with the chatbot.manage grant. MCP endpoint: https://luckpanda.app/mcp (Streamable HTTP, bearer key).

  • chatbot_create_from_website { url }: creates a draft chatbot named after the site and starts reading it.
  • chatbot_source_list: pages learned, failed or skipped, with a reason for each.
  • chatbot_test_message: asks the bot a question as the owner. Test chats never email anyone.
  • Going live (chatbot_update with status live) is a person's action; an agent gets APPROVAL_REQUIRED.

Try it on your website

Paste your address and watch the chatbot learn your pages. No account and no card.
