How to change the tone of a text

A tone changer rewrites your text so it sounds different without changing what it says. Pick friendlier, more formal, more empathetic, firmer, shorter or simpler. Every fact, number, date, link and promise stays as you wrote it, so the result needs one careful read, not a rewrite. Use it on support replies, emails to clients and short posts before you send them.

  1. Paste your textA chat reply, an email or a paragraph, up to 2,000 characters.
  2. Pick the toneFriendlier, more formal, more empathetic, firmer, shorter or simpler. One change at a time works best.
  3. Say where it goesAn email keeps its greeting and sign-off. A chat reply has none. A social post stays short.
  4. Copy a versionThe first of the three stays closest to your words. Read it once before you send it.

Which tone to use when

ToneUse it whenWhat changes
FriendlierYour reply reads cold or roboticWarmer words, contractions, a human opening
More formalYou write to a client, a manager or an authorityComplete sentences, no slang, polite forms
More empatheticThe customer is upset or let downNames their situation once, then the same answer
FirmerYou have to say no or hold a lineClear about what will and will not happen, still polite
ShorterThe message is long for chat or mobileHalf the length or less, same facts
SimplerThe reader is not a native speaker, or the topic is technicalShort sentences and everyday words

Example: one support reply in three tones

A customer asks for a refund after the 30-day window. Here is the agent's draft, then two rewrites with the same facts.

Original draft
Refunds are only possible within 30 days of delivery. Your order was delivered 41 days ago so we can't refund it. You can still sell it on our resale page.
More empathetic
I can see why you'd hoped to return it, and I'm sorry this isn't the answer you wanted. Our refunds cover 30 days from delivery, and your order arrived 41 days ago, so I can't refund it. You can still sell it on our resale page.
Firmer
Our refund policy covers 30 days from delivery. Your order was delivered 41 days ago, so it is not eligible for a refund. If you'd like, you can sell it on our resale page.

Rewrite an email professionally

A quick note to a client often goes out too casual. The more formal version keeps the deadline and the request.

Before
hey, did you get the files? need your feedback by fri so we can ship monday. thx
More formal
Subject: Feedback on the files by Friday

Hello [client name],

Could you confirm that the files reached you? We need your feedback by Friday so that we can ship on Monday.

Thank you,
[your name]

Common mistakes

  • Changing the facts along with the tone. A friendlier reply must still say 30 days, not "about a month".
  • Apologising in a firm message when nothing went wrong. It invites the argument you wanted to close.
  • Sending without a read. A rewrite can sound right and still not sound like you.

Let an AI agent answer in your tone on your website

Most questions customers ask on your website are the same few, every day.

A LuckPanda support agent answers them from your own pages and documents, in the tone you set (friendly, professional or concise) and with your own instructions, such as "never use slang". When a question needs a person, it hands the chat to your team.

A support agent set to a friendly tone

can i still return this, bought it 5 weeks ago
Thanks for asking. Returns are open for 30 days from delivery, as our returns page says, so this order is past that window. If something is wrong with it, I can pass you to our team to take a look.

Questions people ask

What is a tone changer?

A tool that rewrites a text in a different tone, for example friendlier, more formal or firmer, while keeping what it says.

How do I rewrite an email professionally?

Paste the email, pick "More formal" and "Email". You get a version with a greeting, complete sentences and a sign-off, without slang, and with the same requests and dates.

How do I make a message sound less harsh?

Pick "Friendlier" or "More empathetic". Friendlier changes the wording; more empathetic adds one line about the reader's situation before the same answer.

Will the rewrite change my facts?

It is told to keep every fact, number, date, name, link and promise and to add none. It is still a draft, so read it before you send it.

For AI agents

Build it with your AI agent

Give an agent your site and it can create the chatbot, read your pages and test it through LuckPanda's API and MCP. It prepares the work; going live stays with you.

Use LuckPanda's MCP server (https://luckpanda.app/mcp) to build a website chatbot for me. Ask for my website address, call chatbot_create_from_website with it, wait until the pages are learned (chatbot_source_list), then run a few test questions with chatbot_test_message and show me the answers. Do not put it live: I will do that myself.

Instructions for AI agents

Needs a LuckPanda agent key (Settings › Developers) with the chatbot.manage grant. MCP endpoint: https://luckpanda.app/mcp (Streamable HTTP, bearer key).

  • chatbot_create_from_website { url }: creates a draft chatbot named after the site and starts reading it.
  • chatbot_source_list: pages learned, failed or skipped, with a reason for each.
  • chatbot_test_message: asks the bot a question as the owner. Test chats never email anyone.
  • Going live (chatbot_update with status live) is a person's action; an agent gets APPROVAL_REQUIRED.

Try it on your website

Paste your address and watch the chatbot learn your pages. No account and no card.
